Nova Southeastern University (Shepard Broad Law Center)

Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad School of Law offers a wide variety of international and comparative learning opportunities including courses, clinical opportunities, research opportunities, and law programs abroad. The International programs and courses at Nova Southeastern University Law are ABA-approved. As a student at the Shepard Broad Law Center you won't just earn a degree— you'll encounter the real spirit and practice of law. Our 21st century curriculum, which integrates a solid foundation in traditional legal subjects and a pioneering clinical program, sets us apart from other law schools. More than 1,000 talented students are enrolled in our full-time day and part-time evening programs. With more than 140 rich and diverse courses and programs, you'll get a solid grounding in core legal subjects. From the first day of your studies, you'll learn the day-to-day realities of the legal profession. The four-semester Lawyering Skills and Values sequence—one of the most innovative programs of its kind in the country—will teach you how lawyers spend their time, use their skills, and apply their values. Clinical education is an important part of the NSU Law School experience. In fact, we think clinical education is so important that each and every third year law student is guaranteed a place in one of our clinics. The Clinical Semester brings the study of law to life. Students receive quality "nuts and bolts" training from experienced professor-practitioners and distinguished guest lecturers on campus. Afterward, students participate in individualized internships where they receive in- depth, "hands on" experience in the field and one-on-one mentoring from an attorney supervisor. Each internship is unique. Nova Southeastern University Law Clinic Interns have been placed in law offices and legal departments in South Florida, across the nation, and around the world. Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center is currently offering an online Master's Degree in Health Law degree. Our Master's in Health Law program teaches non-lawyer, health care professionals the skills necessary to effectively identify, understand and deal with the intricate set of legal issues riddling today's health care environment. The program, taught by experts in the interrelationships of the practice of law and professional health care, is intensely focused on the significant role of the law in health care delivery, regulation, management and public policy. The Career Development Office occupies a prominent position at the Shepard Broad Law Center. Because of South Florida's rapid growth, numerous opportunities exist each year for students to engage in part-time legal employment. Although opportunities can be found with judges, in government, in public interest organizations, and in business, the vast majority of positions are with private employers. Many students who clerk with private firms during the academic year find that they are offered permanent positions upon graduation. In order to assist students seeking positions, the full-time director and staff of the Career Development Office provide a variety of services. Employment counseling, resume preparation, job search training, and interview skills assistance are available in both group and individual sessions. A complete resource library is maintained for student use, and state and federal application forms are kept on file for student convenience. In addition, the Career Development Office participates actively in the National Association for Law Placement, thereby assuring students that the most current information on the legal job market is available. The Career Development Office regularly solicits employers to participate in a fall on-campus interview program for second and third-year students seeking summer clerkships and attorney positions. The recruiting program continues to grow each year and attracts many of the largest firms in the state. The Career Development Office participates in the Southeastern Minority Job Fair, a variety of local job fairs, and the Patent Law Interview Program. After graduation from the Law Center, alumni continue to receive Career Development Office assistance. The Career Development Office offers an online job matching system and dial-in service for students and graduates, and a monthly email job bulletin for alumni seeking employment. Alumni are encouraged to use the resources and individual counseling services offered by the Career Development Office throughout their careers.
