Located in the heart of Indiana's capital city, we are a part of the campus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, a 21st century model for urban higher education. Just minutes away from the center of state government, leading businesses, and federal, state and local courts, IU Law - Indianapolis provides students with an excellent legal education that is complemented by our proximity to a variety of hands-on professional experiences. Our new facility, Lawrence W. Inlow Hall, is one of the most technologically advanced law schools in the country.

The Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis is one of two law schools in the Indiana University system. With an enrollment of approximately 900 students, it is the largest law school in the state of Indiana. Occupying a spacious, technologically advanced building in the city of Indianapolis, the school is located on the campus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, which has an enrollment of more than 29,000 students.

The school has enjoyed great success for more than 100 years in preparing students for legal careers. The success of the school is evidenced by the prominent positions graduates have obtained in the judiciary and other branches of government, business, positions of civic leadership, and law practice. The school's more than 8,000 alumni are located in every state in the nation and several foreign countries.

.D. Program. Ninety credit hours of study are required to complete the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Students have the option of pursuing the J.D. degree in a full-time, three-year program or, for students who have employment or family commitments, an evening, four-year program. The school also regularly offers several courses during the summer in two, six, and nine-week sessions for regular and visiting students. Full-time first-year students enroll in 31 credit hours of courses for the academic year (two semesters). Evening students enroll in 20 credit hours during the two regular semesters of their first year (10 credit hours each semester), and take a 3-credit hour course in the following summer. Thereafter, part-time students must take an average of 9-10 credit hours each semester and 3-5 credit hours each summer in order to graduate in four years.

Joint Degree Programs. Six joint degree programs are offered by the law school in cooperation with other schools of Indiana University, allowing students to earn both a J.D. degree and a Masters degree in another area in a shorter time than it would take to earn the two degrees independently.

LL.M. Program. The Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree is offered with five tracks of study: American Law for Foreign Lawyers; Health Law, Policy and Bioethics; Intellectual Property; International and Comparative Law; and International Human Rights Law. This degree requires 24 credit hours and can be completed in one year.

S.J.D. Program. A program of study leading to the Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) degree is also available. This degree requires completion of a dissertation based on original research.
